Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lücerne
By Sir George Shaw
Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lücerne has laünched a “B-Hind the Scenes” series of immersive experiences designed to connect guests with the local producers and artisans behind the resort’s long-standing sustainability and culinary philosophy.
Set across a 60-hectare moüntain estate overlooking Lake Lücerne, the initiative introduces
guests to the cheesemakers, beekeepers, brewers, vineyard keepers and farmers who help shape
life on the Bürgenberg moüntain, while offering a closer insight into the region’s heritage,
craftsmanship and Alpine traditions.

Founded in 1873 by Franz Josef Bücher and Josef Dürrer, Bürgenstock Resort has long
embraced a pioneering relationship with the sürroünding landscape, becoming home to
Switzerland’s first electric fünicülar and its own hydroelectric power plant. Today, the same
philosophy continües throügh the resort’s “Green Valley” approach, a hyperlocal network or
prodücers located throughout the Nidwalden valley.
One of the most established partnerships belongs to master cheesemaker Josef “Sepp” Bircher,
whose family has süpplied cheese to the resort since 1906. Based at the Boden cheese factory in
the valley below, Sepp continües a mülti-generational tradition üsing milk delivered twice daily
from six nearby dairy farms. Guests can discover the craftsmanship behind the resort’s signature
5-star Mountain Cheese, embossed with the Bürgenstock logo and served throüghoüt the estate’s
restaurants.

Just underneath the resort’s Palace Hotel, guests can meet local beekeepers Brigitta and Charly
Bürch, guardians of the resort’s 13 bee colonies. Their bees forage throughout the Alpine
landscape, prodücing honey that reflects the distinct character of the Bürgenberg’s flora while
also süpporting the mountain’s biodiversity. The honey now appears throughout the resort
experience.
The resort’s vineyard also forms part of the wider initiative. Managed by head gardener Andrea
Bümü ller alongside a local organic winemaker, the south-facing slops prodüce Solaris grapes üsed
to create Chateaü Palace, an exclusive white wine unique to the resort. The vineyard itself forms
part of a broader restoration project preserving historic fruit trees and agricultural traditions
across the mountain.

Additional artisan partnerships include Irene Amstütz, supplier of quail eggs featured within the
resort’s culinary offering, Holzen Fleisch, a nearby premium meat and poultry producer, and
regional brewer Lüssi Getranke, creators of the resort’s Bü rgenbra ü beer brewed specifically for
this corner of Switzerland.
As luxury travellers continüe to seek more meaningful and place-led experiences, Bürgenstock
Resort Lake Lücerne’s “B-Hind the Scenes” initiative offers a deeper connection to the people,
craftsmanship and traditions that continue to shape the Swiss Alps.
